Imerc Innovation Week
Imerc Innovation Week is mix of lectures and competitions that will take place from October 15th-18th. We are very excited to have global yacht racing superstar Alex Thomson speak in Cork City Hall on October 16.
Imerc, Ireland's Maritime Cluster, will be hosting a range of free lectures, competitions and networking events. Imerc is establishing a campus of global significance in Cork Harbour that will house a unique mix of industry, research and training facilities. This is taking place in the context of the government’s Integrated Maritime Plan which seeks to double the current contribution of maritime activites to Ireland's GDP by 2030.
Alex Thomson to speak at Imerc Innovation Week
Imerc and it’s partners, CIT, UCC and the Naval Service, are tremendously excited to have Alex Thomson, a global yachting superstar, speak about his life as a racer in Cork City Hall on Thursday October 16 at 20:00. Alex is one of the most exciting and talented yachtsmen of his generation. He is the youngest sailor ever to win a round the world race and has already broken three world records in sailing. He most recently cemented his reputation with a podium 3rd place finish in the 2012/2013 Vendée Globe.
Competing in the high-speed, extreme IMOCA 60 class, Alex has been sponsored by HUGO BOSS since 2003, making their relationship one of the longest and most coveted in sailing and sports sponsorship history. If you do nothing else today be sure to watch his mast walk exploits here.
Imerc Innovator of the Year Competition now Open. Deadline 6th October.
The Imerc Innovator of the Year Competition, which rewards excellence and innovation in the maritime and energy sphere, is officially open for applicants. Now in its second year, the competition will have expanded eligibility and an increased prize fund of €1,500. The competition is sponsored by Enterprise Ireland and EY. The deadline for entries is 6 October 2014.

Blue Sky Thinking for Blue Growth
In June's Blue Sky Thinking Lecture Arnaud Disant, Founder and Director of Sea-Fi Wireless Communications and IMERC Innovator of the Year 2013, spoke about the business and technical challenges of creating the world’s first wireless harbour in Cork Harbour.
This WiFi zone covers over 1,000 square kilometres and stretches from 30 kilometres south of Roches point
Ringaskiddy Deepwater Berth.
